The South African police service (SAPS) spokesperson Sgt Thembeka Maxambela spoke to the Reporter on behalf of district Commissioner Major general Zodwa Molefe and told the Reporter that on the 15th  of December they arrested  23 year old suspect who fatally stabbed his 47 year old mother with a sharp object. This brutal act of violence took place Vanderbijlpark in Bophelong at sector 2 Smarties.

The deceased was with her husband; he went outside to smoke when he heard his wife screaming.

 He immediately got into the house and found the son of the deceased holding a knife. The husband tried to force entry into the bedroom where the suspects and the deceased were, the suspect blocked the door and stabbed his mother on the neck.

A struggle was ensured between the suspect and (stepfather) it is there that suspect stabbed his stepfather on the fore- head upper arm and at the upper back.

The suspect ran away thereafter and was chased by members of community until Sharpeville police came along and arrested the suspect.

The deceased was certified dead at the scene.  The husband was taken to Sebokeng hospital for further treatment.

The motive for the brutal kill of the deceased is unknown and police are investigating a case of murder and attempted murder.

The district commissioner Major General said he is strongly against any form of killings and violence, brutal acts of women and children and urges the community to report any form of criminal activity in our areas. 

“The suspect will soon appear before the Vanderbijlpark magistrate court” Sgt Thembeka Maxambela concluded.
