Statistics show that the
Emfuleni municipality is rated the worst performing local municipality in the year 2021. The Emfuleni local municipality had a terrible Tuesday (12 October) when their fleet of was attached. Apparently at the end of September the local council’s bank account was also attached by Eskom.

Mr Klippies Kritzenger who is the CEO of Golden triangle chamber of commerce told the Reporter that Emfuleni Municipality is in debt of 3.5 billion to Eskom and they failed to honour the agreement of paying 1.3 billion the Eskom requested.

On Tuesday morning in Vanderbijlpark the local sheriff executed an attachment court order confiscating a fleet of vehicles belonging to the council.” This action was prompted by council failing to honour the agreement with Eskom,” Mr Klippies Kritzenger added.

He continued to say this attachment of vehicles already affected the municipality’s ability to render service delivery to residents, which was something that already the local council’s was failing to provide. The total number of vehicles taken was twenty-four, which was estimated to be valued at around two million rands. This adding to the fleet at the local municipality in Duncanville depot confiscated in       mid- September.

A delegation consisting of the Premier of Gauteng, Mr David Makhura and Deputy Ministers visited Emfuleni Municipality to try and resolve the predicament but it is still unclear if the problem was resolved.
