Following the beating of national foreigners on the 4th February and #OperationSiyabangena led by Gauteng MEC for Community Safety Faith Mazibuko and Emfuleni MMC for Public Safety Ndade Mokoena, five police officers were arrested at Vereeniging taxi rank on Friday following allegations by taxi drivers that the officers are known for dealing in drugs.
The officers have been incarcerated for possession of drugs, car number plates and passports in state vehicles at the taxi rank.
Emfuleni spokesperson Lebo Mofokeng said the raids form part of a cleaner city initiative.

“The MEC has been on this trail for two weeks now, starting with schools where dangerous weapons were found. Today that is when they had the bigger drug bust in Vereeniging.
Mofokeng added that law enforcement will continue to engage with communities to root out the rot.
“I am sure law enforcement agencies will be able to take the matter forward and we are hoping that these illegal activities happening in our towns will be curtailed.
The officers are expected to appear in court soon.
