The VEE VAN HEERDEN in partnership with KHULUMA NDODA hosted #IAmNotYourPunchingBag where the two organisations are fighting Gender Based Violence at Quest Conference Centre in Vanderbijlpark.

In the welcoming speech, Brigadier Mokoena said that South Africa is the most violent country and again that the SAPS have deserted their post.

The main guest speaker, Mr Patrick Shai who is the Survivor of Gender Based Violence said that when you kill a woman, you cut her life short and again you increase the number of orphans out there. Shai asked all men to break the silence and requested that the police must stop mocking men when they come to report abuse. He also said that the main problem is that men don’t speak. In most cases, guys ended up being in jail because they wanted to satisfy their partner’s needs. Men must also tell how protection orders against them are affecting their lives.

MEC of Safety, Mme FAITH MAZIBUKO said that it’s high time a place of safety be established for men as well. She further requested that if a man doesn’t love his partner anymore, he must not kill her but walk away. MEC also called the SAPS to order that when cases are reported, they must stop saying it’s none of their business. More than 28 serial rapists are on the run and must be found and arrested.  Present in the event were PROPHET T.A. RALEKHOLELA, DEPT OF HOME AFFAIRS & SAPS.
