Sasolburg Regional Court sentenced a 37-year-old father who lusted after his daughter to 24 years behind bars for repeatedly raped her.
National Prosecuting Authority’s regional spokesperson, Phaladi Shuping says the court heard how the man repeatedly raped his daughter between August 2020 and November 2021 at their home when her mother was absent.
The mother noticed her daughter’s unusual behaviour, which also affected her academic performance, prompting the girl to tell her mother about the abuse. The man pleaded guilty but refused to accept responsibility for the abuse, claiming he was possessed by the Devil.
The prosecutor argued for a life sentence, but the defence lawyer pleaded for a shorter sentence because the man had shown remorse by admitting his crime. The sentencing was handed down last week Wednesday. In another incident, the fate of the Palm Springs father who was arrested last month for allegedly raping his own biological 13-year-old daughter is yet to be determined, follow the reporter.today for more.
