The Evaton SAPS high destiny unit, together with the members of the Sedibeng flying squad arrested a man in possession of an unlicensed firearm on Avondale road, Park town at Evaton on Wednesday night, it is said that members were on a routine patrol when they noticed the man at around 23H:50.

The man was apparently heading home when the police became suspicious of him as the area of Park town is infested with criminals who hijack and rob people of their belongings at night.

The suspect was searched and an unlicensed 9mm norinco pistol was found in his possession.

The suspect will soon appear before the Sebokeng magistrates court to face a charge of possession of an unlicensed fire arm.

Police say the arrest should send a strong message to hijackers and robbers around the Evaton precinct that police are on the look-out and will not hesitate to apprehend anyone who will be found to be on the wrong side of the law.

Crime report:

Evaton cops face a probe for slapping a woman in a police station.

South Africans have been left furious by footage uploaded on social media, and two Evaton SAPS officers are accused of enforcing police brutality.

Two officers stationed at Evaton police station in Gauteng will face an internal investigation after footage of the pair dragging a woman across the floor and slapping her across the face was uploaded on social media.

There is also a verbal confrontation that is hard to interpret, but it seems that the Emfuleni based resident is claiming she had previously been beaten by the cops who appear to be holding her on each arm in the video circulating on social media.
