Two teachers at Katleho Impumelelo Secondary School in Zone 11 Sebokeng have been suspended after bullying allegations that apparently led to a grade 9 pupil commiting suicide.
Gauteng Education Department spokesperson Steve Mabona further said that the teachers are reporting at the district centre. “The two educators are currently reporting at the district office as a precautionary measure for their safety until there is calm in the school and within the community. Mabona also acknowledged that the Gauteng Education Department is aware of the passing on of Sifiso Zililo following the bullying allegations and said investigations are underway.
“The police are investigating circumstances surrounding his death, and we have also launched an internal investigation to establish facts on the matter,” he added.
“As the department our thoughts right now are with the family, friends and fellow learners. We convey our deepest condolences to the parents of the deceased learner and wish them strength during this challenging period, as no words are sufficient to express our feelings for the loss of a child. Our Psycho-Social team has already conducted necessary counseling at the school and also extended same to family,” added Mabona.
