Since we are still in the spirit of women’s month, the Metsimaholo Local Municipality in the Free State on Friday 26 August launched the Curious Movement Shelter for Gender-Based Violence (GBV) in Sasolburg. The centre will serve as a sanctuary to protect victims of GBV and femicide.

The municipality says the opening of the shelter for survivors of GBV is another important step in government’s efforts to empower women and girls in abusive and violent environments relationships.

Furthermore, they said that this would also help them to get assistance and rebuild the lives of the abused women and girls around Metsimaholo local municipality.

Department of Social Development in the Free State funded Curious Movement to establish a shelter after it got a house donated by ESKOM and supported by number of companies, which are doing business with ESKOM.
