THE DEATH OF LEARNER LEADS TO SCHOLAR TRANSPORT DISRUPTIONS IN SEDIBENG:
A Grade 11 boy pupil from Meyerton High School in Vereeniging died on Tuesday, 26th of July 2022, after being accidentally trampled by a scholar bus.
The incident occurred at approximately 07:05 AM when learners were boarding the department’s scholar transport bus to school. It is reported that the learner was fatally trampled by the bus as he was trying to board it.
Gauteng Education MEC Panyaza Lesufi deployed the Psycho-Social Team to the school on Wednesday, 27 July 2022, and provided trauma counselling to all those who were affected by the incident.
Investigations are underway into determining the circumstances surrounding this incident.
We further learnt with concern about scholar transport disruptions in Sedibeng which began on Wednesday, 27 July 2022. It is alleged that scholar buses are not allowed to transport learners in De Deur, Meyerton and Sharpeville.
The source further reported that some members of community were stoning buses and intimidating drivers, not to transport learners.
