On Wednesday the 15th of December 2021, at approximately 5pm, the Orange Trio Task team(SAPS) and the
Sector manager of Poortjie were patrolling N1 Golden highway and R28, Randfontien roads areas for crime prevention purposes. They received a complaint of armed robbery and Immediately responded.
SAPS Spokesperson, Sgt Shaan Motsapi said the complainant alleged that he was coming from Bloemfontein en-route to Randfontien hiking along the N1 road.
He alleged that a red Toyota Yaris with three (3) occupants gave him a lift. As they drove towards Randfontein, the other passenger who sat with him at the back seat suddenly cocked a firearm, pointed it at him and demanded his belongings. He was then robbed of his
cell phone and cash. Thereafter, he

was left in the bush, the suspects instructed him to run away, whilst pointing the firearm at him.
A few moments later police noticed him and approached him, he explained the ordeal that had just occurred.
“Police swiftly traced the vehicle and spotted it travelling in the N1 towards Vanderbijlpark. The vehicle was stopped and the three occupants were arrested on the spot.
A stack of cell phones was recovered in their possession. A toy gun which was used as a real firearm as well as the vehicle were seized, since it was used in the commission of the crime.
The suspects will soon appear at Vereeniging Magistrates Court facing charges of armed robbery and possession of stolen property,” Sgt Motsapi concluded.
