A truck was set alight at Frikkie Meyer Boulevard in Vanderbijlpark. It is suspected that this was perpetrated by people protesting.
The truck was pelted with stones and rocks and later set alight. The Zimbabwean driver had to run for his life when the vehicle came to a sudden stop. It is alleged that these protesters are part of an unhappy group of employees at Arcelor Mittal South Africa steelworks.
Their dissatisfaction stems from labor brokerage and they demand permanent employment with full benefits from the company. Damage to the truck is estimated at R185 000 and police are investigating a case of malicious damage to property.
