
Gauteng Premier Panyaza Lesufi handed over the Vereeniging taxi rank project to Gautrain, yesterday on Wednesday the 23rd, upon taking oversite at the taxi-rank, Lesufi witnessed the dire conditions that commuters and taxi drivers have had to live with for years after the initial R64 million rand taxi rank failed to materialize in 2015.
Premier Lesufi was accompanied by Social Development MEC Mbali Hlophe, the Sedibeng District Mayor Lerato Maloka and Emfuleni Local Municipality Mayor Sipho Radebe.
The source told the reporter.today that the Vereeniging taxi drivers said they were tired of empty promises and that they will only get excited about the new taxi rank project when it’s close to completion. Lesufi told officials to stop fighting and start delivering services to the community as he does not want his name to be tainted. The first phase of the project, which is already underway will amount to R31 million rand and will create almost fifty jobs for the residents of the Vaal.
